Classroom Instructor

Aboriginal Headstart

Hours of work is Monday to Friday, 8:30am – 4:00pm, excluding school closure dates.

This position takes effect January 2025 for the remainder of the school year, and back full time in September 2025.

The successful candidate will be working in a preschool setting classroom at the GPFC Aboriginal Head Start Program. They will be responsible for planning, instruction, supervision, and evaluation of the children. They will be able to carry out goals and objectives of the program under the direction of the Program Coordinator and Classroom Supervisor; maintain our quality standards and Alberta Child Care Licensing Regulations, while upholding the vision and direction of the Grande Prairie Friendship Centre and its programs.

Qualifications:

· Childcare Certification: Level 2 or Level 3

· Provide a current and clear Criminal Record and Alberta Child and Youth Intervention Checks

· Valid First Aid certification

· Having knowledge, appreciation and respect of the Indigenous culture and traditions is an asset

· Able to provide an enriched experience for children by planning a developmentally appropriate program based on children's needs and interests

· Can create a responsive learning environment and invitations to play

· Has a strong understanding of the role of the teacher in a learning through play environment

· Warm and empathetic attitude towards children and families

· Actively encourages and engages in meaningful interactions with children

· Conducts self professionally as an individual, within a team and with families

· Ability to work independently or in a team situation

· Is reliable and flexible to the needs of the program

· Strong organizational and time management skills

· Comfortable to communicate with families about their child’s learning and development
